Responsible Gambling Tips

If you bet, it’s essential to set boundaries and practice self-control. Here are some key strategies to have fun and gamble responsibly:

  • Know Your Limits: Before you start, determine how much money and time you’re willing to spend.
  • Make a Plan: Set clear limits on your money and time, and stick to them.
  • Balance Gambling with Other Activities: Ensure that gambling is just one of many hobbies in your life.
  • Team Up with a Friend: Having a gambling partner can help both of you stay accountable.
  • Use Timers: Set a reminder on your phone to track how long you’ve been gambling.
  • Never Gamble with Borrowed Money: Only use funds that you can afford to lose.
  • Stick to a Budget: Once you reach your limit, walk away.

Recognizing the Signs of Gambling Addiction

It’s important to recognize when gambling stops being fun and starts becoming a problem. Ask yourself or someone you know if any of these signs sound familiar:

  1. Increased Secrecy: Hiding gambling habits from friends or family.
  2. Increased Spending: Using more and more money and spending more time gambling.
  3. Borrowing Money to Gamble: Using borrowed funds or financial aid to continue gambling.
  4. Neglecting Responsibilities: Failing to meet personal, professional, or financial obligations due to gambling (such as gambling away your rent money or missing your son's baseball game).
