Washington County Remembers Overdose Victims
The Washington Drug and Alcohol Commission teamed up with the Pittsburgh chapter of Not One More to hold a rally and candlelight vigil for overdose awareness Thursday evening. Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone said overdose fatalities are an “epidemic” in the county, and Coroner Timothy Warco mentioned that he’s dealt with over 500 drug-related deaths during his tenure. Laura Probst is the founder and president of the Not One More Pittsburgh Chapter, and she said their focus is to destigmatize addiction so that people can get the help they need, and also to inform taxpayers that the new life-saving drug Narcan is worth the taxpayers’ investment. “Each overdose death costs each taxpayer between $6,000 and $7,000,” said Probst. “I think they need to consider the cost of $100 and save a life.”
