October is recognized as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. The month long observance is to honor the role that prevention plays in promoting safe and healthy communities. Preventing drug use before it begins is the most cost effective way to reduce drug use and its consequences. Research shows that every dollar invested in proven school based prevention programs can reduce an average of $18 for social services and substance use costs. The model programs presented in our schools such as Protecting You Protecting Me and Too Good For Drugs are proven to make a difference in our youth. There is a free webinar for parents presented by ONDCP on October 6th from 2:00 – 3:30 about Evidence Based Strategies To Prevent Substance Abuse. Click here to Register
