Alcohol Awareness Month…. Alcohol and Alcoholism

April is Alcohol Awareness Month and this month we will posts facts you may not know about alcohol.   Alcoholism has little to do with the amount or what kind of alcohol one consumes but more the uncontrollable “need” for alcohol.  It’s a powerful craving a need as strong as the need for food or water.  So, when you hear someone say to an alcoholic “Just quit”, they can’t.  In fact, someone who is used to drinking large amounts should not just quit cold turkey.  It’s the only drug that you can die from the withdrawals.  Other drugs the person may want to die but with alcohol then can die from it.  With support and treatment, they may be able to stop drinking and reclaim their lives. Treatment is available, contact our office if you don’t have insurance to cover it and live in Washington County.  724-223-1181 or 1-800-247-8379
