National Drug Facts Week – Day one
According to National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week® (NDAFW) information despite some promising signs that the traditional cigarette use is decreasing among teenagers, unacceptably high numbers of youth continue to smoke, and recent studies show an alarming number of teens are trying e-cigarettes. NIDA’s 2017 Monitoring the Future survey found that 16.6 percent of 12thgraders reported using e-cigarettes in the prior month.
According to the 2105 PAYS (Pennsylvania Youth Survey) for our county which is administered to youth in 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th graders; tobacco (including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco) was the second most commonly used drug among adolescents. National smoking rates, however, have declined substantially in recent years.
